Hailing from Mantova, Italy, Cristian Marchi has established himself as one of the country’s most recognised and widely followed DJs and producers. Known for his signature blend of house, progressive house, and contemporary dance music, Marchi combines uplifting melodies, powerful vocals, and a club-driven energy, seamlessly bridging classic European dance culture with modern commercial sounds.
We spoke to Cristian about his latest single ‘Summer Is Magic’, his career and some advice for aspiring DJs and Producers.
1. Summer Is Magic feels deliberately timeless rather than trend-driven. Was the goal to create a summer anthem for 2026, or a record that could still make sense 10 years from now?
The songs that have always fascinated me the most are the ones you can listen to ten or twenty years later and still feel something.Trends move very quickly, but real emotions last.
2. You’ve spent more than three decades behind the decks. What aspect of DJ culture today would be completely unrecognisable to the young Cristian Marchi starting out?
Probably the fact that today you can build a career and a global community directly from a smartphone.When I started, you had to travel for miles, spend countless nights in clubs and earn every opportunity in person. They are two very different worlds.
3. Many DJs today build careers through social media before they’ve even played major clubs. Do you think the pathway into the industry has become easier or harder than when you started?
It’s easier to get in. Much harder to stay.
Today anyone can release music or create content, but building a credible and long-lasting career is still a huge challenge. Visibility should never be confused with value.
4. You’ve performed across countless venues and countries. What separates a good crowd from a truly unforgettable one?
Energy.Some crowds simply have fun, while others become part f the show.When you feel a genuine connection between yourself and the people in front of you, that’s the kind of night you remember forever.
5. If 25-year-old Cristian Marchi could see your career today, what would surprise him most?
Probably the fact that I’m still here after more than 35 years.In our industry, getting there is difficult, but staying there is even harder.I think he would be more proud of the consistency than the achievements.
6. We’re seeing a huge resurgence of classic house, euro dance and vocal-driven records. Why do you think audiences are reconnecting with those sounds right now?
Because people are looking for emotions. Many of those records had incredibly strong melodies, personality and identity. Technology changes, but the need to feel something when listening to a song never does.
7. Do you think modern dance music has become too focused on algorithms and data, or are those simply tools artists need to embrace?
They are useful tools, but they can never replace instinct. Data can tell you what’s working today.It can’t tell you what the next great idea will be.That still depends on creativity.
8. Is there a track in your collection that never fails, regardless of the country, venue or generation standing in front of you?
Let’s say that my ultimate go-to track remains Love Sex American Express.
9. Launching a label is one thing, building a catalogue that lasts is another. What does success look like for CMMusic over the next five years?
For me, success won’t be about releasing a hundred records.It will be about releasing a smaller number of records with a clear identity that people can still remember years from now.I’d like CM Music to become synonymous with quality
10. If you were mentoring a young producer for six months, what would be the first lesson you’d teach them? What qualities would matter more to you than their streaming numbers?
I’d tell them to stop constantly looking at what everyone else is doing.First, they need to understand who they are artistically. Everything else comes after that. The qualities that really matter are consistency, curiosity, the ability to learn and the desire to improve every single day.

A production technique you use today that would have blown your mind in the 1990s?
The ability to collaborate and produce music in real time with people located on the other side of the world.
One piece of advice every young DJ should ignore?
“Follow whatever is trending.”
What does dance music mean to you in 2026?
It means exactly what it meant when I started: bringing people together and making them dance.The sounds change, technology changes and platforms change, but seeing thousands of people dancing together is still something truly special.
