DJ and producer duo Mentum are firming themselves as one of the Nordic dance scene’s most exciting breakout stories. Formed of Tim Terkelsen and Finn Eriksrud, the pair have amassed tens of millions of streams, while earning DJ support from heavyweight tastemakers including David Guetta, R3HAB and The Chainsmokers. Tim and Finn now extend their creative output into LOCO MOTIV recs, the new label of Mentum which launches at the drop of new single ‘Breathe.’
We spoke to Mentum to find out more.
- Mentum, welcome to Dusted Nation. Let’s start off easy. Tell us, between Tim and Finn, who is last to leave the dancefloor?!
Mentum: Thanks guys! Happy to be here. That would definitely be Tim, haha! He’s a real “dancefloor warrior.” He’s soaking up the energy until the lights come on.
- Party animal(s) identified, please now tell us more about who Mentum are and what you do?
Mentum: We are a duo that has spent the last decade evolving together. We’ve touched on so many different styles over the years – from Pop and R&B to Electro House – and that diverse journey is exactly what defines Mentum today. We focus on “high-energy house with emotional gravity,” meaning we want to make tracks that have mainstage euphoria but still hit you with a real, human connection that you can actually feel.
- Mentum has been your collaborative project for ten years now, what have been some of your highlight achievements/stand out moments during that time?
Mentum: Signing to R3HAB’s publishing company back in 2023 was a massive turning point for us. Working closely with him and traveling the world for songwriting camps has been incredibly rewarding – the amount of talent and great people we meet keeps us constantly inspired.
Another standout was supporting Galantis at one of Oslo’s largest venues. Seeing that home-crowd reaction at such a scale was a moment where everything felt like it was clicking into place.
- New single “Breathe” launched your record label LOCO MOTIV recs. What’s the vision for this label?
Mentum: We’ve always wanted to start a label to build a concrete legacy that lasts. LOCO MOTIV recs is about doubling down on our specific lane rather than chasing trends. We want it to be a platform not just for our own sound, but for other emerging talent as well. Norway is a small country and the club scene is just now starting to truly grow and we want to be at the forefront of that movement.
- It has just been announced that you will be coming to London on 29th May to debut at Ministry of Sound alongside studio collaborator and friend KAAZE. What are you most excited for about this show?
Mentum: It’s a huge privilege to support KAAZE at Ministry of Sound! He’s a good friend, and after the success of our collaboration “Antidote,” we love any chance to work and perform alongside him. This will be our first-ever gig in the UK, and to have it be at such a legendary venue is a dream debut. We can’t wait to see how the London crowd reacts to the Mentum energy in person.
- Will London fans hear “Breathe” in the mix? How have crowds reacted to this song so far?
Mentum: 100% – it’s a staple in our sets right now. The reaction has been incredible! Seeing the crowd lean into the tension during the breaks and then experiencing that physical and emotional “exhale” when the drop hits tells us the track is doing exactly what we intended.
- What tips and tricks would you give to budding producers on the age-old quest of “finding your sound?”
Mentum: Don’t just produce one genre! Experiment constantly and pull influences from places you wouldn’t naturally look. Our sound is a mix of everything we’ve explored – from Indie-Pop to EDM – and that diversity is what eventually defines your “lane”. If you treat creativity like a muscle and train it every day, you’ll eventually find a sound that is uniquely your own.
- Which artists/DJs/tracks are you both listening to right now?
Mentum: We’re currently really feeling “Frequency” by Luca Luper & Karmon, as well as “ATC” by IDEMI. We’re always digging for tracks that have that perfect blend of club energy and unique sound design.
