Okeechobee Music Festival Won’t Return in 2027

Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival will not return in 2027, according to an email sent to past attendees on Thursday. The Florida festival, known for blending jam bands, hip-hop, and electronic acts across a sprawling lakeside campground, appears to be taking a pause after its 2026 edition rather than continuing its usual annual run. This comes after it skipped 2024 and 2025 as well.

The announcement arrived in an unusual package. Rather than a straightforward statement about the festival’s future, organizers used the email largely to promote a 2026 Family Photo Album, a digital yearbook, and a commemorative poster designed by artist Nigel Waymouth, known for his psychedelic rock poster work dating back to the 1960s. Buried within the nostalgia-heavy rollout was the confirmation that there will be no 2027 edition of the festival. Even the announcement was a big vague.

The post highlights how Okeechobee is new independent once again, after being owned by Insomniac for a few years. The post states that the festival industry is very difficult right now due to rising booking fees and production costs. Now that the festival is not linked up with a big company like Insomniac, it can’t seem to finance the festival in its current form. So the post goes on to say that they will take time off to reimagine and rework the festival, whatever that means. They promise the core of the festival will remain at its “next edition” but there is no date or even year provided.

Okeechobee has weathered its share of turbulence over the past decade, including a canceled 2020 edition due to the pandemic and shifting ownership within the festival’s parent company. The event has also had to compete with an increasingly crowded festival calendar in Florida, where multiple large-scale music and arts gatherings now vie for the same late-winter and early-spring dates.

Whether the gap year signals a full rebrand, a scaled-back return down the line, or something more permanent remains unclear. Organizers have not detailed plans beyond 2026, and the festival’s website and social channels have not addressed the pause directly outside of this email blast to its mailing list.

For now, fans who attended the 2026 edition can look through the photo album and yearbook as a way of closing the book on this chapter of Okeechobee. The Waymouth poster, in particular, is being positioned as a collector’s item tied to what may end up being the festival’s final run for the foreseeable future.
