Sam Wolfe, we are so happy to have an interview with you. How is going 2025 so far?
2025 is great, I just celebrated my son’s first birthday and have been finishing a ton of music
How did you find your style? I originally started raving in 2009 and so I think my style is a culmination of all of the things I loved to hear coming up in that 2009-2014 rave era. But now as time goes on I prefer heavy sounds but a more refined listening experience. I like the aggression but I like a clean mix, and I like a good vocal, and most important – I like to see people dancing so I try to make whatever I feel will get people moving and enjoying their time out.
For you, what is the difference between being a DJ and a Producer? A DJ these days is more of an entertainer, on social media you hear the word influencer all the time, but I think it’s more of a social media entertainer. People go on these apps to be entertained, and when you are DJing you should be entertaining the crowd through the vibe you curate and the performance you give behind the Decks.
A producer is the musician that allows the DJ to have the ammunition to entertain others. Usually they are the same person, but many times DJ’s are just DJ’s and producers are behind the scenes, just producing. All 3 paths are OK, and I think it’s important to know which one you want to take.
Tell us about your latest release ‘Swipe Right’, making the debut on Heldeep!
This has been a club weapon for the better part of a year, the vocal was originally given to me by Matt Sassari, and then I turned the beat around and added my signature aggression but kept it driving and groovy. I am happy Oliver Heldens and his team also felt the same about the record.
When was the day you decided to start your music career and how was it?
Well I guess I started the day I downloaded ableton in 2010, but I didn’t actually pursure music or really learn how to produce until 2019. I remember it quite vividly – I was looking in the mirror one day and knew I was not fulfilled. Ever since graduating college, I had been making excuses why I couldn’t pursue a
music career, and that was leaving an empty feeling in my gut throughout my early adult years. One day I finally said F’*ck it, I am going to lay my head on a pillow knowing I at least went for it, I don’t care if anything happens, I just need to know I tried. And that was the beginning of this new chapter.
About your music, what else do you have planned for this year?
My next release on HILOMATIK is another weapon called The Party, I am excited about that one.
What is the track you have enjoyed making the most so far?
Haha that is an interesting question, they all are fun, and equally frustrating to make. But Yes B*tch was the most fun in the sense that I knew it was going to be big once we started receiving all of the DJ support, from Dom Dolla, to Swedish House Mafia, to Tiesto, Adam Beyer, Carl Cox, John Summit, etc etc it was my first big moment getting this kind of support.
What would you say to your past self?
Learn how to play the piano.
To finish, what do you want to share with our followers?
Everyone is on their own path, don’t pay attention to what others are doing and let that dissuade you from pursuing what you want to do. The fear of failure and looking dumb is a very real thing, but everyone goes through it, so just go after whatever it is that you want, especially if that is a career in music.
