Meet to Theobuntu the iconic talent that presents a futuristic and contemplative sonic and visual universe in the electronic music scene.
Our first intrerview is dedicated to one of the promise in the scene, we are talking about Theobuntu, singer, songwriter and producer, that keep revolutionanting the electronic music, his debut EP ‘Exode’, self-released in 2020, set the artistic direction of the project and introduced the ‘Artefact’; a glowing hexagonal entity that follows him on stage and throughout his visuals. This year, the artist continues releasing stunning projects as ‘Our Aside’, ‘Alright?’, and now his latest album ‘Adult Feelings’; with more than 40k listeners on Spotify, Theobuntu shares with us a piece of his career.
Can you tell us how did you start as a DJ?
I started young—like 16—just messing around at parties with friends. Nothing
serious at the time, just for fun. But about two years ago, I thought, “Why not actually
push my own music and mix it with tracks from artists I vibe with?” That’s when
things really started for me.
As a DJ, how would you describe your sound/energy behind the decks?
I’ve got a lot of energy, and when I’m behind the decks, I go all in. I love hyping up the crowd and just creating a big vibe. My sets are way more clubby than the stuff I drop on streaming platforms, but I always try to blend uptempo house with catchy pop stuff. It’s all about that sweet middle ground.
What do you enjoy doing most in your career?
Performing, 100%. There’s nothing better than being on stage, connecting with the
crowd, and feeding off that energy. It’s the best feeling ever.
What’s on your bucket list as an artist?
Right now, I’m super hyped about my first international tour. But honestly, the biggest goal is just to make a living doing what I love. That’s the dream.
You have been realizing you have some productions, what’s the first step for creating your tracks?
It kinda depends, I don’t really follow a strict formula. But usually, I start by finding that one idea or sound that hits me straight away—like the lead or main hook. Once I’ve got that, everything else builds around it naturally.
What’s your best motivational tip for getting things done?
I just think back to the gigs I’ve already done—the memories, the adrenaline—and tell myself, “Let’s make more of those.” It always fires me up.
What is the best DJ set you’ve seen this year/ever and why was it so memorable?
Tough one… but I’d probably say Skrillex at We Love Green a few years ago, or Fred Again. even if there’s a much more live dimension than just a DJ Set.
Which two artists would you most love to witness collaborate on a song?
Right now, I’d say AVAION and Daniel Allan. If I had to pick someone other than Fred Again, obviously
If you had to listen to one track for the rest of your life, would it be?
Radiohead – All I Need.
Finally, what are you most looking forward to in this year?
More international gigs, for sure. And I’m really hoping to collab with artists I
genuinely listen to and admire. That would be insane.
